The music becomes a song with melody so in the beginning you should be using the same chords and trying to write a vocal melody for it. Then you will have a song if I were you I would suggest following this small lesson below to get you started.
Try writing your melody over this progression – C – G – F – C
In music theory this is known as the I – V – IV progression it is the single most powerful and common in modern music.
