Does it make sense to use guitar compressor for vocals?
I’m a newbie in recording. Just went through “Guerilla’s guide to home recording”. It highly recommends using compression whenever possible. I’m currently looking to buy Boss CS-3 compressor/sustainer for the guitar, but was thinking if it makes any sense to route vocals though this too. If not, what is the unit I should be looking for (for vocals only, I mean). Thanks!
Compression is a curse, and tends to be overused, resulting in recordings that, increasingly, lack all dynamics and harmonics and thus have all the audio fidelity of a cheap 1960s vintage transistor radio.
What’s next, listening to music through a couple of tin cans and a piece of string?
